The summer months (although we are still in August) feel like they've come and gone far too quickly for us this year. We've now settled into our home away from home across the border just in time for pre-season training and the camp.
My husband is gearing up for the season. The little boy inside of him dreams at night and hopes during the day that this year will be it. This will be the year they'll win the cup. I know he dreams about it not cause he's told me, but because whenever I catch a glimpse of him drifting off to sleep after a long day of training; its with a grin consumes his entire face....I've seen this face before over the course of our relationship and it's unmistakeable. At this level, when you've come so far and have worked so hard, they all have to believe. They need to believe that there's a chance that they could reach that next level in their career, that's what keeps them going. They all dream the same thing but hopefully they do not lose sight of what is more important, that they are living their dreams.
As for me, the summer months although they were cut sort were filled with family, friends, weddings, and travelling in Europe. Now it's almost time to hit the books again, while I sharpen my mind he sharpens his blades, or has already has, over the course of the past month and a bit.
Once again I am very excited to share all the excitement, trials, tribulations and comedy that will go on in our life this year so without an further adieu.
Let the hockey season begin!

yay! i can't wait for the NHL season to start up again either!!! i live in Canada, so hockey is life up here( as being from Canada, i'm sure you know too!) Not sure how big hockey is down in the US though.
ReplyDeleteLooks like we've got a great team heading into the 2010-11 season! wooohoooo...
welcome back
ReplyDeleteSaw on Twitter you are thinking of getting a puppy... we have a Maltese/bichon mix and she is PERFECT for our lifestyle! She is very low maintainance, can come with me everywhere (I don't have to worry about checking her on the plane, she comes on board with me) We even have her trained to use "potty pads" so she can go to the bathroom wherever we may be (hotel rooms, apartment, house... and no 3am trips outside in the brutal cold winter!) She has been my saving grace in this lifestyle... she keeps me sane when my husband is gone. He wouldn't have necessarily chosen a little dog like her, but he knows that as long as we are living the hockey life, we can't handle a big dog, and he has QUITE the soft spot for her! ;) Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteHey there- long time fan of your blog! As a die hard female hockey fan, I really enjoy reading your posts. Good luck to your husband this year, I hope his dream comes true. Enjoy what little is left of the summer. Look forward to the rest of your posts! (can't wait for hockey to finally arrive, baseball has gotten way too boring lol)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you guys this season! Our team in Germany is folding so we're out of a job and looking for a new one ... UGH!
ReplyDeleteWecome back!! I was worried that you would get too busy to continue your blog. I think all of us really look forward to your thoughts. For Sweetpz, yes, hockey is different in the U.S. depending on where you live. For me, living in Oregon, it is tough to keep the hockey spirit going (thank goodness for NHL Center Ice). But, I do find that there are tons of hockey fans around me and all I have to do is mention hockey and heads turn. Friendliest fans on earth!! Will be reading, HW!!!
ReplyDeletehello hello!
ReplyDeleteMy NHL guy has finally begun training camp, and the team looks very excited to be together again on the ice. Of course, in my opinion they spent plenty of time in our 'game room' playing Wii and PS3 shouting and yelling and eating beyond belief when they weren't travelling this summer. I am excited too for the season to start, although, the idea of not waking up beside my guy every morning makes me a little down. I will be able again to join on quite a few road trips for away games, but if I don't see him everyday, I feel it's been too long we've been apart. :) That's love for yah!
Was enjoying this blog-please keep it going. great to hear from others in similar boat... even from across the sea. Season in Russia is well under way. KHL benefit- faster season.... but crazier schedule. Games every other day and travel is 1/2 the month..... even when he's home, there's no down time really. It's ok though. He's the life I chose!!
ReplyDeleteI've been married for over 10 years and living the hockey life. I've tried my best to keep my career together but it isn't easy. I enjoy your blog and wish I would have had the early insight into the hockey life like you and many others who have commented.
ReplyDeleteLet's go Oilers!!...Yeah, I know it's a long shot, but they're my boys and someone's got to keep the flame alive, right??
ReplyDeleteAnd, not intending to be rude or nosy or anything, I was wondering how you and your husband met? Did you meet before he went to the NHL? Just seems like it would be hard for a high profile player to meet a partner period, and you seem like a really smart, well-rounded person. Looks like he lucked out!! :)
Sorry, that should have read: "would be hard to meet a DECENT partner, period" :)
ReplyDeletewhy do you always tease us with a post and the leave us high and dry??
ReplyDeleteWe need some more posts. Dont neglect this blog as its great !
ReplyDeleteSince she is obviously not keeping us up to date on juicy hockey gossip, does anyone know of any other "life of a hockey wife" blogs I can follow?
